Baton Rouge businessman and airport commissioner Cleve Dunn Jr has become the first Black man to represent District 6 on the East Baton Rouge Metro Council, after winning the Dec. 5, 2020, runoff election against school board representative Dawn C. Collins.
Dunn, who is a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge, has two businesses in the district. He and his wife Stacy have two daughters Malaysia and Aniya. On Jan. 2, more than 350 supporters gathered at the Signature Flight to celebrate his historic inauguration.
He campaigned on equity for small businesses, better wages for DPW workers, crime prevention, and economic growth in the district. He began the first council meeting by requesting reports on the participation of small, women, and minority-owned businesses in city contracts including the MOVEBR program.
