Juneteenth celebration to include COVID vaccinations at Gus Young Park

CareSouth will offer COVID-19 vaccinations

State Rep. C. Denise Marcelle, District 61, along with various community sponsors will host the Annual Juneteenth Celebration on June 19, 2021 from noon to 4 p.m. at Gus Young Park, 4200 Gus Young Avenue, in Baton Rouge.

The event will include free food, music by singer-guitarist Kenny Neal and the Neal Family and COVID-19 vaccinations administered by CareSouth Medical and Dental. Everyone who gets the vaccine will receive free crawfish or other refreshments and will be entered into a drawing to win $1,000. 

“We are excited to come together as a community once again to celebrate this important milestone in American History,” said Marcelle.  “It will be a fun event for the whole family.” 

“We are honored to be a part of this great community celebration and provide much-needed vaccinations for our residents, especially the younger ones,” said Matthew Valliere, CareSouth CEO.

 Additionally, there will be other activities celebrating Juneteenth throughout the month culminating with the Gus Young Park Celebration.

  • June 18, 2021 , Baton Rouge African American Museum  (BRAAM) Juneteenth Celebration  at the Capitol Park Museum, 600 N. Fourth St., 6 p.m. Live music, poetry, Keynote Speaker Raymond Jetson
  • June 19, 2021 , Unified Juneteenth Caravan, Memorial Stadium, 1750 Foss St., 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  Register for the event at Eventbrite.com
